My boyfriend is intending to buy a sugar glider through Pocket Pets and I’m pretty excited, as I spend a lot of time over at his house. I own a rabbit who’s about 6 years old. He’s very friendly and doesn’t bite at all. I was wondering if it would be safe, once the baby sugar glider is tamed, to try and bond my rabbit with the sugar glider. Since they’re both social animals, and I only have one rabbit and he’ll only have one sugar glider.

They’ll eat eachother.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Rabbits and sugar gliders are both actually territorial animals, and the rabbit could easily kill the glider very quickly. Different species really shouldn’t be kept together, it would be cute it just isn’t very realistic. Hope this helps.

First off, DON’T BUY FROM PERFECT POCKET PETS. Almost all of their sugar gliders go home too young to be weaned, with deadly diseases/parasites, and many die within weeks of people having them home. They’re not socialized, and though they claim that a sugar glider’s bite is like a firm pinch, it’s more like if you were biten by a rat or a hamster. Their teeth are similar, though unlike rodents’, they don’t grow throughout their lives. (Sugar gliders AREN’T rodents, btw.) They buy all of their sugar gliders from mill breeders. If you’d like, you can e-mail me and I’ll send you pictures of a sugar glider/puppy mill – one that they most likely get some of their sugar gliders from. Not to mention that you have to spend about $500 for everything, which is ridiculously overpriced for the crap cage they send you home with, an unsocialized sugar glider that has a high chance of being infected with deadly parasites, the unsafe, possibly deadly heat rock, and wodent wheel they slap their sticker on, claiming it as their own. Then the vet bills (oh, you DO need a vet, despite the fact that they tell you that they don’t need to be seen by one), the $100 replacement for another glider because they won’t cover it if it dies (and there’s a pretty good chance it may), and yadda yadda yadda. Just get a sugar glider from a reputable breeder. It’ll save you tons of money and you won’t be ripped off or lied to.
Secondly, he’ll need to get at least 2 sugar gliders, because they ARE social animals, like you mentioned. However, they need to be with their own kind.
It wouldn’t be a good idea to put a rabbit or sugar glider with one another. They’re both prey animals, and they could scare one another, especially if the sugar glider starts to crab at the rabbit. It would put a lot of stress on both of them – not to mention that the rabbit could easily injure the glider. Though you said he doesn’t bite, he’s obviously social with humans. However, his behavior can quickly change when an unfamiliar species is introduced.
I’d recommend that you and your boyfriend (especially your bf) make an account on http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm
If he’s read the information on Perfect Pocket Pets’ website, he’ll need to erase from his mind what he’s read on there and start over. GliderCentral is the perfect place to find an array of accurate sugar glider information. PPP says to avoid these places and say that they’re inaccurate because they know that everyone on those boards knows about the kind of operation they’re running, and they want to keep their company alive.

I dont think it is a good idea.

1) NO- gliders can NOT be around other pets EVER
2) Pocket Pets is a MILL BREEDER selling Sick, Injured babies that are too young to be away from their parents and often DIE within the first week to 2 weeks and by then Pocket Pets will not return your calls and emails
3) If Pocket Pets info is all you have based the decision to get a glider on, then PLEASE do more research first- they LIE about how to care for hem to make it look easy and cheap so they can sell the gliders to people who don’t know any better.
4) Choose a REPUTABLE breeder instead and PLEASE do research at the sites below PRIOR to getting a glider!
