Perth; Can I ride a motorcycle without insurance?
June 18, 2011
I’ve had experience of the Perth police and I wouldn’t mess with them, so yes get insurance ,FAST. I had a look at the request form and they are asking what value you are placing on the bike not what you want to pay.

i cannot se that in there but i see How much do you want to insure the motorcycle for just put in the amount you want if you wreck it/gets stolen

This type of insurance covers your scooter so insure it for what you paid for it…it also covers damage you might do to another vehicle that’s why it’s a must !

we have 2 types of insurance for vehicles and at least get the top one as you can be taken to court and sued for the cost of repairs to the other car.
1. called 3rd party, this means your bike is not insured, but other peoples vehicles are, so if you dented a BMW and it cost $10,00 for the repairs the insurance company would pay. But you would not get anything for the damage to your own bike, you have to pay for your own repairs.
2. the other is called Comprehensive coverage, this also covers you for accident, theft, fire – just about everything. The want to know how much you paid for your bike as this is the money they will give you if it is stolen or so badly damaged it is not worth getting it repaired.
The choice has to be yours as to which insurance you get and the difference it costs to get the comprehensive. Comprehensive also depends on where you live, some areas tend to have more vehicles stolen, so the insurance companies charge more for these areas.
Some companies now also have third party and theft, so you are covered for theft and damage to other cars, but yours will not be covered for accident.
Just put the cost of the MC as $1,000 when asking for quotes.
Hope this helps
other good insurance companies you could look at are:
