Approx 1000 kilometres you can do it comfortably with one over night stop but wont see much as you will mostly be on highway. and if you haven’t done it before then you will miss out some lovely places to call into.

Realistically you can take as long as you like to get to Sydney. In saying that if you are wishing to travel non stop (a bad idea) then via the Pacific Highway it will take you roughly 12 hours. You have 2 main options available to you for travel. They are the coastal route via the Pacific Highway. Which is quicker and more “touristy”. This way you can visit places such as Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. The other option is via the New England Highway, which is a less touristy inland route. On this run you can visit Glenn Innes, Tamworth (Country Music capital of Australia) and even the Hunter Valley. Please keep in mind that both routes, especially the Pacific Highway, are frequented by trucks especially at night and at times are 2 lanes only. Also one must keep an eye out for kangaroos and wallabys at dusk and dawn, hitting these guys would be the equivalent of hitting a deer.
